Oneonta Middle School

Committed to Excellence for our Students and Community

OMS Welcome

  • Dear Oneonta Middle School Community,

I want to extend a very warm welcome to the students and parents of Oneonta Middle School.  The middle school years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning.  Each year provides important transitions and acquisitions of new skills.  I value the social and emotional development of each child as they transition through early adolescence. Oneonta Middle School is committed to providing a challenging, rigorous curriculum and a safe environment for students to develop.

As the principal of OMS, I believe that it is my responsibility to build and maintain a supportive and collaborative spirit at our school.  Together as a school community, we will build on the traditions of the past and meet the challenges of the future in innovative and exciting ways. Our students' success is attributed to the partnership and the relationships we build within our community, and this is more important now than ever. It truly does take a village to raise a child, and at Oneonta Middle School, we value teamwork and collaboration! Education is a joint venture and Team OMS greatly appreciates the support you provide for your children.

    Thank you!

    Leigha Rogers
    OMS Principal

    Powerschool Data Breach Statements

    Oneonta City Schools

The Alabama State Department of Education informed school districts in Alabama, including Oneonta City Schools on January 7, 2025, of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool.  PowerSchool is the ALSDE’s third-party software provider for housing student information.

On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool experienced a targeted attack, which impacted several school districts both domestically and internationally.  This data breach was an attack on PowerSchool internationally and was not a cyberattack directed at Alabama or any particular Alabama school system.

We have been advised that accessed information may include personal information such as names, addresses, and email addresses.  Social security numbers were not involved for any Alabama students or teachers.

PowerSchool has assured us that the incident is contained, and there is no evidence of ongoing unauthorized activity or operational disruptions.  They have implemented enhanced security measures, deactivated the compromised credentials and continue monitoring the situation closely.

Oneonta City Schools will continue to provide information to our families, educators, and stakeholders as it becomes available from the State Department of Education and PowerSchool.

As we learn more, impacted individuals will be contacted directly with more specific details.
