Powerschool Data Breach Statements
Oneonta City Schools
The Alabama State Department of Education informed school districts in Alabama, including Oneonta City Schools on January 7, 2025, of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool. PowerSchool is the ALSDE’s third-party software provider for housing student information.
On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool experienced a targeted attack, which impacted several school districts both domestically and internationally. This data breach was an attack on PowerSchool internationally and was not a cyberattack directed at Alabama or any particular Alabama school system.
We have been advised that accessed information may include personal information such as names, addresses, and email addresses. Social security numbers were not involved for any Alabama students or teachers.
PowerSchool has assured us that the incident is contained, and there is no evidence of ongoing unauthorized activity or operational disruptions. They have implemented enhanced security measures, deactivated the compromised credentials and continue monitoring the situation closely.
Oneonta City Schools will continue to provide information to our families, educators, and stakeholders as it becomes available from the State Department of Education and PowerSchool.
As we learn more, impacted individuals will be contacted directly with more specific details.
